Searching for Super

A follow-up to the hilarious and heartfelt superhero story ALMOST SUPER, which Kirkus Reviews called "fluent, funny, and eminently sequel-worthy," perfect for fans of Pixar's The Incredibles. It has been three months since brothers Rafter and Benny Bailey teamed up with their former nemesis Juanita Johnson to defeat the real supervillain, October Jones. The Bailey and Johnson families still have their dud powers, and the villainous Joneses are still at large, so for now, the superheroes are all living by the same philosophy: Hunker down. But as far as Rafter is concerned, "hunkering down" just means "doing nothing." He's had a taste of what being a superhero feels like, and now he's not content to stay inside and wait around. Juanita tells them there are other ways to be a hero-the boys could volunteer with her at the retirement home, for example-but that's not the kind of excitement the brothers want. So when Rafter's cousin Thimon (no, he doesn't have a lisp, his parents just had a weird sense of humor) comes to stay, and tells Rafter and Benny that he can help them be superheroes as long as they don't tell their parents about his secret power, Rafter and Benny jump at the chance. It appears that Thimon's power is to give ∗other∗ people powers, and Rafter and Benny are too caught up in the fantasy to realize that might be too good to be true. Finally, Juanita is kidnapped by the Joneses, and Rafter and Benny realize that Thimon's actual power is to make the boys see things that aren't real. In a climactic showdown, the Baileys and Johnsons confront the Joneses, and with some help from the citizens of Split Rock, prove that being a real hero is all about working together.
