ZigZag is an African-American mentally handicapped 15-year-old boy, whose odd perceptions give him a keen insight into his bleak urban surroundings and oppressive world. He has just escaped from the clutches of his abusive and neglectful father and moved in with a volunteer mentor named Singer, a 29-year-old forklift driver. ZigZag's life takes a wrong turn when he naively removes some money from the safe at the restaurant where he works. With Singer's help ZigZag plots to return the money, a complicated task that turns into a comedy of errors when he strikes up a friendship with Jenna, a fast-talking and sympathetic hooker.
