Patrick can't bear parties. No matter how many conjurors, games or sausages on sticks there are, Patrick would rather be quietly working away on a model or invention. His mum has different ideas, however. She thinks parties are good for you and forces Patrick to go when classmate Sophie has a birthday tea.
