Lynn, the protagonist of 'Binge', is a forty-something pastry chef who snorts her first bump of coke at a party in Manhattan. Embracing her adventure with open arms she makes new connections with her fellow revellers until, at the end of the night, she is once more bereft and alone in her own marriage. In 'Sahara', a young man is kidnapped while wearing a kangaroo suit advertising a fast-food restaurant. His red-necked captors mistakenly believe he is the mascot of a rival school's football team, but things take an ominous turn when, realising their error, they decide to keep him anyway. And in 'ONJ.com' a young woman in advertising decides she needs a gay man in her life but things don't quite turn out to be as 'fun' as she had hoped.
McIntyre's dialogue and observations are incredibly well-nuanced and his stories are suffused with generosity and compassion for his characters.
