Samson Fairbourne, captain and confirmed bachelor, distrusts all women. He jokingly describes the perfect obedient wife in a note and seals it in a bottle and throws it overboard his ship. His prank is found by Polly Bray, a beautiful hardworking fisherman forced to make a living off the ocean she loves to pay of her deceased fathers debts. When Samson saves Polly from drowning this unlikely pair is thrown together. They are attacked by pirates on their way back to Boston and they are forced to battle this unforeseen foe together.
