Nichole Aldridge is desperate to save her father from physical and emotional destruction. Her father is a famous jockey who is being blackmailed by an unknown source. When he refused to throw a race, the villains let him know that his life is now in danger. Nichole vows to keep her father from discovery. She disguises herself as her fathers male protege and answers an ad for a jockey, not realizing immediately that her prospective employer is a very dashing marquis who she meets one night along the Thames river while she is dressed as a woman.
Dustin Kingsley sees through her disguise right away but gives Nichole the job. She explains all to Dustin and he lets she and her father reside in one of his cottages while he looks for the blackmailers. In the meantime, Nichole is to train his stallion to win the Derby, Nichole's life long wish. Fate and a wishing locket throw these two people together as they uncover the mystery that plagues the turf. Love blossoms and Nichole ultimately wins the Derby.
