Known as `GOR', the Great Ocean Road runs 253 kilometres along the south coast of Victoria from Torquay to Warrnambool joining peaceful towns as it winds along the coastline of sandy surf beaches with rugged interludes. You will need a car and we recommend driving east to west for cliff side views. To enjoy the full trip give yourself a minimum of 3-4 days as the driving is `serpentinal' and slow... savour every minute of it rather than rushing on through. Contact destinations ahead of time as many are closed over Winter. From interstate fly to Avalon Airport for a 40 minute trip to Torquay. From Melbourne, a 1.5 hour drive will get you to Torquay. Use the A1 for a speedier return trip to Melbourne.
