The Quest of Two Russian Artists to Save the Elephants of Thailand
The domesticated elephants of Thailand, long held sacred, had fallen on hard times. Alarmed at the dwindling population, two innovative Russian artists had an idea. Taking a cue from some American zoo elephants who had been taught to paint by holding a brush in their trunks, they set out to open an art school for elephants, with the sale of the paintings going toward the elephants' proper food and care.
The scheme worked - as demonstrated in this breathtakingly beautiful, riotously whimsical book that takes you through the lush jungles, and chaotic cities of Thailand while offering a valuable lesson in conservation and startling revelations about the nature of art itself.
