Coeliac disease and diabetes are both conditions that rely on diet for their effective management, and combining the two diets can seem overwhelming at first.
Sue Shepherd is a highly regarded dietitian who suffers from coeliac disease. She has devoted much of her career to finding a way for people with dietary restrictions to enjoy life without feeling they are missing out. She has graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Promotion and post graduate Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics. Sue Shepherd developed a form of fructose malabsorption diet. Subsequently a team at Monash University, led by Professor Peter Gibson and including Dr Shepherd and others, developed the low FODMAP diet.
Her expertise is recognised internationally and she has won numerous awards including the Dietitians Association of Australia Annual Award for Achievement for outstanding contribution to the profession, and Douglas Piper Young Investigator Award from the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.
