A Biography.
Samuel Beckett was a writer of genius and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969. He died in December 1989. One of the most mysterious and private of authors, he maintained a virtually impenetrable wall of privacy around himself and the details of his life.
When Deirdre Bair approached him in 1971 proposing to write his biography, his enigmatic response that he would not help her but he would not hinder her, proved to be his way of making the first and only major biography of him possible.
