Vanessa Beecroft's work, now definitely reaching a high visibility in the contemporary art scene, is only titled with the artist's initials followed by a progressive number. Her latest performance, presented at the PAC in Milan, has reached number 65, and once again these strong images, these memorable tableaux vivants do the talk. For the first time, Beecroft has worked with 20 Afro-American men. Barefooted, wearing old smokings, sitting at their tables drinking their wine, eating their bread and meat with no silverware, these immigrants, typically rejected by civil society, now sit in a museum, facing a public forced to observe and respect them as a work of art. VB65's catalogue boasts Giacinto Di Pietrantonio's critical text and a rich image content, promoting a social reflection on the body and the aesthetics of contemporary art.
