This is a compendium of fifty almost secret but fabulous destinations worldwide, for ocean cruisers looking for attractive cruising destinations off the beaten track, or just dreaming about them.
Sailing offers the opportunity of adventure, and true freedom – to cast off the lines and explore new and spectacular parts of the world that are still relatively undiscovered. This book offers the inspiration and the know how to anyone dreaming of truly sailing off the beaten track, covering destinations ranging from Japanese archipelagos, Kodiak Island in Alaska, Micronesia, Easter Island, Vanuatu, the Solomons, St Helena and Argentina… There are 50 fabulous and unexpected cruising destinations here, brought to life by the author’s vivid descriptions of his own sailing adventures, and made a real possibility for all sailors through the practical and accessible advice.
Each destination is described first as the end point of an adventure (the author and his wife Jenny have visited each location under sail) and then in practical terms, with GPS references for anchorages, weather hints and hand-drawn chartlets. All the destinations featured are accessible to moderately skilled and experienced sailors with well-appointed vessels, in search of somewhere different and uncrowded.
Destinations are grouped geographically, first by ocean/region (North Pacific; South pacific; Indian Ocean, Southern Africa; South Atlantic) then into chapters that typically bring together two or three locations within a single country, meaning that information regarding entry formalities and weather is not repeated needlessly. Illustrated with beautiful colour photography.
