The third and final installment of the Clan MacKenzie trilogy.
Ten year old Virginia MacKenzie is betrothed to her life long friend Cameron Cunningham. It is a joyous day for the entire Clan MacKenzie. But Cam has to leave on a trip and Virginia vows to follow him. Believing Cam to be on his way to France, she boards a ship after the captain tells her he will take her to Cam. He sells her into the vilest bondage instead.
Now a grown woman in Tidewater, Virginia is an indentured servant and suffers a cruel existence. But when a hallmark that she drew for Cam as their secret sign of love appears on a hogshead in port in Glasgow, Cam suddenly believes that after all these years, his true heart, may still be alive. Gathering her sister Agnes who has always believed in Virginia's continued existence, they retrieve Virginia from the planation. But Virginia lies to them and tells them she has lost her memory and cannot remember any of them. The truth however is that she does not want her family to suffer any more than they already have and if they find out what her life has been like, they will feel terrible. And of course, Cam wants his true heart back...but can he regain her trust along with her heart??
