Orlac is about to break free. Only the Trinity can stop him wreaking vengeance, but who are they?
Saved from death by Merkhud's Spiriting, sentient Torkyn Gynt lives in hiding both from this enemies and Alyssa, the woman who loved him and now believes him dead. His only companions are Cloot, his beloved falcon, and Yargo, a spirit sent to him by the dreamspeaker, Lys.
Tor senses the moment when the last of the Paladin falls to Orlac. Now the only thing which can stop the powerful, angry god from wreaking vengeance is the Trinity - but no one knows who or what they might be. Determined to make good his terrible betrayal of Alyssa, Tor sends Yargo to find his and Alyssa's children, who were spirited away by Darmud Coril, god of the Heartwood.
For his part, Tor intends to track down Goth, former Chief Inquisitor, who escaped execution and is still a threat to Alyssa and the Paladin. Better to keep one's enemy in sight, Tor believes, and he sets out on a mission to find the evil Goth and his equally dangerous companion, Xantia, before they can take their own revenge.
