Photographer Kay Farrow is devastated by the death of her mentor and friend, photojournalist Maddy Yamada, in an apparent hit-and-run accident. What was Maddy doing in San Francisco's Mission district, notorious for drugs and rough sex?
Maddy's legacy to Kay is her precious camera collection, and in it Kay discovers an unfinished roll of film, a series of photographs that give off the unmistakable aura of evil. In memory of her friend, Kay resolves to complete the project, and finds herself peering through the lens at a sinister and decadent organisation.
The Goddess Gun Club is expensive, exclusive and secretive; its members include some of San Francisco's most eminent citizens. But ugly rumours emanate from behind its barricaded gates: of priceless guns engraved with scenes of debauchery, scenes that are gruesomely enacted by the club members. There are stories of hunting expeditions where the quarry is human; of duels to the death; of callous disregard for life in the pursuit of sensation.
In avenging her friend, Kay is led into uncharted waters of sexual excess and depravity. She is exposed to great personal danger and forced to confront the bitterness of betrayal. But she also learns valuable lessons about herself, and discovers the ability to conquer her own nightmares.
