This is the first full commentary on Walter Benjamin's "The Task of the Translator,".
the essay is very popular and widely taught at p/g level, but is also cryptic and misunderstood, hence the need for this detailed and nuanced treatment.
It is also the only commentary on Benjamin's essay at book or article length ever to experiment with the mode of translating that he himself championed.
