Sixteen year old Jon is a street warrior. Every night he goes to the Pyre, where the warriors gather to attract the Creatures of the Night and battle to reduce their numbers before humans are overwhelmed.
They began coming two years ago - batwinged skeletoid horrors from the air and monstrous black slug things from the sea. The cities burned, the survivors took refuge in suburban fortresses.
Jon is caught up with Bronwen, another street warrior, who is battling for answers. Where are these things coming from, and why?
