An inspiring, science-based, engagingly written diet book for the legions of Younger Next Year fans- and anyone else in midlife (or beyond) who thrills to the promise of the book's title. In Younger Next Year, the chapters alternated between patient Chris Crowley and doctor Harry Lodge. This book follows the same style, but the science and advice come from Tufts nutritional scientist Jennifer Sacheck.
Her message is straightforward - eat decently and exercise seriously - but also startlingly new. Dr. Sacheck believes, and has the science to back it up, that exercise is as central to weight loss as caloric reduction.
So, while she outlines a diet to follow (and explains why "dead" food with few nutrients can make us dead, too!), she also enlists two of the best professionals in the field of sports training, both from the Aspen Club in Aspen, Colorado - Riggs Klika, Ph.D., a great trainer of both Olympic athletes and older people surviving cancer, and Bill Fabricini, PT, one of the most respected physical therapists in the country - to work with Chris on the 25 Sacred Exercises. Do them, along with some serious cardio work, and, bingo! Drop the extra pounds, get fit, get sexy, stay young. Crowley's inspiring, often hilarious account of the Road to Svelte (weightloss challenge) carries the reader along, making for a diet book that is fresh, readable and new.
