Is it the end of the road, or just the beginning?
It is a typical Tuesday evening in Kilbrody. Cathy Long was on her way to collect her drunken father from the pub. Ozzy O'Reilly was in the graveyard, watching the Dublin bus through his binoculars. And Charlie Finn was pulling pints for the stragglers at the bar. Another three and a half hours to go, if Charlie managed to get everyone out on time. As he poured another pint, it hit him: he was bored.
And that's when the woman from the bus walked through the door.
Ruth Treacy's arrival is anything but boring. And her extraordinary behaviour is soon the talk of the town. It seems that she's here to stay - for a while, at least - and the effect she has on Kilbrody's inhabitants will change some of them forever.
Pauline McLynn has combined her comic genius and literary skills to create a hugely entertaining and poignant novel.
