The Wild Girl
This is a fabulous read! The story follows the life of Dortchen Wild, wife of Wilhelm Grimm. Not much is known of her or her life, yet everyone knows her legacy - the stories she told to the Brother’s Grimm – Cinderella, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel….just to name a few. It is a tale of forbidden love and a woman’s struggle to find her place and to hold her family together during the turmoil of the Napoleonic Wars. She must also deal with her abusive father whose will is to tame her, rather than let her be the free spirit she is. Full of romance, history and the magic (and brutality) of the traditional Grimm fairytales, I highly recommend this to anyone, particularly if you have enjoyed ‘The Complete Fairy Tales’ by the Brothers Grimm (9780099511441). The Wild Girl
This is the story of Dortchen Wild who grew up next-door to the Grimm brothers. Fans of fairytales will love this stunning tale of passion, love and war. There is a lot of darkness in this novel, just as there is darkness in so many of the fairy tales by the Grimm brothers. But just as in the fairy tales, even in darkness there is always hope. An absolutely beautiful read. Reviewed by 08rz
