Alex North's 'The Whisper Man' draws you in with quite the compelling prologue, a promise of truths revealed and mysteries solved but the rest of the book falls short. From an unlikable, incompetent father, who doesn't seem to have spent any time with his son before the death of his wife, to not quite selling the thriller elements the reader is left wanting more. Although the secondary story has a solid cast of characters and a much more interesting story it is left to the wayside in favour to Tom and his longing for someone else to parent his child. The switch between first and third person is jarring and really halts the flow from chapter to chapter. In the end Tom and Jakes storyline could have been forfeit to the benifet of Pete Willis who already had investigated the Whisper Man and now the disappearance of Neil Spencer. - Paige (QBD)
