Chris is all set for his family holiday and can barely contain his eagerness to get outside and explore. His family on the other hand, is a little less excited. They’re plugged into their electronic devices – choosing to text, email and take selfies rather than see the stunning (and somewhat extraordinary) sights around them. Chris catches a mischievous racoon cheekily spying on the family, the rest of whom continue to obliviously look into their screens. One morning, the racoon seizes the chance to steal the family’s phones, tablets, headphones and chargers – scurrying away with them into the wilderness. Mum, Dad and sister don’t take the news of their missing gadgets very well – and there is a bit of panic. Chris takes the opportunity to show his family the fun they had been missing out on. They retrace their steps – picnicking, fishing, swimming and stargazing, but this time without distraction – and their holiday goes from sedentary, to spectacular. On their final evening together, Dad reveals a secret trick to the family which takes everyone by surprise, meanwhile mum has never looked so relaxed. As they pack up to leave the next morning, nobody really wants to go – everyone has reconnected and been reminded about some simple joys they’d forgotten. They look forward to the journey home, playing games in the car they’d missed out on when they first set off. The racoon watches on, gadgets in-hand. Did he know what effect his thievery would have, or did he simply want to get his hands on those shiny toys for himself? We don’t know for sure – but one thing is certain, Chris ends up having his greatest holiday ever.
