Who amongst us has not been influenced by the great Lady "Bulldog" Burton? Celebrated Victorian traveller, parasol promoter and, of course, inventor of the double-gusset underpant. Sadly, until recently little has been known on the detail of her daily life. Now, at last, Lady "Bulldog" Burton's previously unpublished diaries provide a fascinating insight into her escapades.
This volume of Lady Burton's diaries was discovered in the British Library by accident by Editor, Sandi Toksvig, whilst researching the importance of bark in the cuisine of the Ubangi people. The partially restored account of the grand tour of Europe that Lady Burton and her maid, Jinks, undertook together in the late 1880s, includes Jinks's original sketches which have been carefully restored by the illustrator, Sandy Nightingale.
