Peter Sellers was a huge star both on radio and televison, and fast becoming a box-office hot property, when he was called in twenty-four hours before filming began to take over from Peter Ustinov, who had walked off a movie called 'The Pink Panther' and had left the character of Inspector Clousseau in urgent need of recasting.
