Lobsang Tsering was the young chantmaster when the deep overtone chanting of the Gyuto Monks was first heard by Western ears in 1965 and subsequently made known to the world.
For the past 30 years, the monks of the Gyuto Tantric University have demonstrated their unique form of harmonic chanting where each monks sings a chord containing two or three tones simultaneously. The unearthly sound, which has been likened to the resonance of a drum or tone of the digeridoo, is thought to arise only from the throat of a person who has realised enlightenment. It seems to come from a pure meditative state and is capable of communicating that quality of meditative awareness to the hearer.
Tantric practice is the habit of reconising oneself through visualisation as a perfect being in the centre of a perfect world. By engaging in these sacred tantric initiation rituals, arises a true vision of the Buddha nature within.
