On Earth the Lord of the Last Days live with no need to care for the future. It is the wildest of times, and the saddest. The sun will go nova in the year 3620. Last to leave Earth is the spaceship "Magellan" carrying a million homeless - who witness the Atlantic boil dry, the pyramids disintegrate, the ice of Antarctica melt, the death of Earth. Then they sleep.
Five hundred years later, the "Magellan" must make planetfall to repair its quantum drive. The voyagers awake to find themselves on a world that seems like paradise: the idyllic planet Thalassa. Soon paradise is haunted by the songs of distant earth, and alien destinies are inextricably, tragically entwined.
