A breathtakingly original rendering of the Trojan War, shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction 2012.

Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the court of King Peleus and his perfect son Achilles. Despite their differences, Achilles befriends the shamed prince, and as they grow into young men skilled in the arts of war and medicine, their bond blossoms into something deeper - despite the displeasure of Achilles's mother Thetis, a cruel sea goddess. But when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, Achilles must go to war in distant Troy and fulfill his destiny. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus goes with him, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they hold dear.

A retelling of the tale of Achilles and the Trojan War grounded in a tragic and heartbreaking love story. Beautiful picturesque writing paints a vivid picture of life, love, loss and fate. This book is definitely worthy its praise. - Sarah (QBD)

Untitled
The eternal love story of Achilles and Patroculs retold with Madeline Miller's signature lyricism and deft touch, this beautiful book will be hard to put down, and will stay with you long after you finish. Everyone knows the story of Achilles, the greatest of Greece's warriors, and the rage that was his ultimate downfall during the seige of Troy, but Miler offers a softer version, focusing on the love had for his companhion, Patroculs, who was known as the other half of Achilles' soul. Their romance is beautiful, heartbreaking, at times brutal, and always utterly compelling. This is one of my all time favourite books. - Rebecca (QBD)
