Lettie's da realises that as an alchemist, Lettie's ma changes things all the time, including her mind! Lettie was created by her ma from slate u as all children should be a blank slate. Ma realises that the stones in the ground are calling her back to being a stone, so she creates snow to shield her. Lettie's alcoholic da turns into a beer bottle, but changes back to a man when he's ready to be a da again. Without snow and her family and friend's protection Lettie would quickly turn back to stone. But with snow she is protected and even the cold and miserable things in life are beautiful.
