The Small Shoot

The Small Shoot, based around a popular series of articles in The Shooting Times, is a wry look at two seasons that the author spent setting up and running a shoot on the border between England and Scotland. On one level the book looks at the practical approach to running a small shoot with useful advice both for the beginner and for the more experienced shoot manager. Running alongside the theoretical approach is the story of the very real problems, frustrations, setbacks and occasional triumphs that filled the two years covered by the book. All this is covered sometimes seriously, sometimes humorously, but always with a deep insight into the countryside and country sports.
