Australian photographer Brett Hilder was travelling in Eritrea in 2004 when he met ethnic Ethiopian Sibella, living with her family in a refugee camp. They fell in love and married, and Brett returned alone to Australia to organise the visa that would allow his wife to join him, but this turned out to not be an easy task. With his beautiful prose Hilder captures the resonance of the distance between himself and Sibella: distance in geography, culture, in status as a first and third world citizen. Distance that has failed to defeat their love.
