We are in the midst of the most exciting time ever in science, with many advances taking place and bringing to the fore important ethical and environmental issues. We have seen vigorous public engagement around many areas of science and technology, including environmental and health issues: global warming, the use of nuclear power, embryonic stem cell therapies.
'The Science Wars' explores these key scientific debates, analysing the scientific background and the opposing viewpoints, and arguing that the key factor in resolving the science wars is a well-informed general public. An important aspect of Australia's future is a source of tertiary education and scientific intellectual property generation for surrounding countries, and success in achieving this full vision will depend in a large part on how the science wars are resolved.
