'The Rose Notes' is the story of Pearl Kinnear, daughter of Dobie Kinnear, a sheep farmer in the Riverina area.
After her mother's death Pearl stayed on at the family property, 'Mamerbrook', to look after her father. But she is now 38 years of age and beginning to realise that she may have left things too late.
'The Rose Notes' traces the relationship between Pearl and Dobie, a stubborn and cunning man slowly succumbing to old age no matter how hard he tries to fight it. As the pair struggle to keep the farm going, managing Dobie's health and Pearl's growing sense of despair, a stranger attempts to deliver a gift from a man Pearl's mother Alice once knew.
Into the story comes Henry, son of Thomas Hearne. Thomas has left his son a tape recording in which he asks his son to go on a quest to find Alice Kinnear and deliver to her a gift of 'The Rose Notes'. The cutting is for Alice. Secrets are gradually revealed, lives are altered. and the future opens up for Thomas and Pearl as their paths eventually cross.
