A father and his young son walk alone through burned America, heading slowly for the coast. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. They have nothing but a pistol to defend themselves against the men who stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food – and each other.

Are you in need of heartbreak, darkness, and sadness? If yes then does Cormac McCarthy have the book for you! A tale of tragedy where the only light this pair has in their grim reality is that of one another and the unknown future they grip to. A story of family, sacrifice, and a struggle for survival. A beautiful read not for the faint of heart. - Lachlan (QBD)

A stark and bare novel with the strange beauty of a tree braving the winter wind. A man and his son trek across a barren world after an unexplained apocalyptic event. In the hope to survive, a father must do what has to be done to survive, but how will his actions and their environment shape a fragile boy into manhood? McCarthy is magnificent. - Matt (QBD)

The Road
This book does not read as a fairytale so beware...
It is gripping, terrifying, heart wrenching but excellent on so many levels it is hard to know where to begin. It brings to the forefront of my mind the thought that without hope we all have nothing. 4 out of 5 stars - Yvonne
