DI Alex Morrow is a witness in the Mark Lynch case - a vicious, nasty arms dealer, more brutal and damaged then most of the criminals she meets. During the trial, while he is held in custody, Lynch's fingerprints are found at a suicide in the the Red Road flats. Morrow doesn't know whether to reveal this fact or not as the case could be seriously comprimised by this information. What complicated things further is that when he is convicted, a psychologist is charged by the court to do a risk assessment on him. He starts to dig around his personal history and finds that the first case against him, the murder of his own brother, was probably committed by someone else. But who? And how much did the wrongful conviction make him the man he is today?
Meanwhile a privileged Scottish lawyer sits in a castle on Mull, waiting for an assassin to kill him because he has sent a report on money laundering into the serious crime squad, a report which will bring his family down.
