Nisha and Tal are seeking a reward for finding the star that's missing from the heavens over Quentaris. Tal enlists the assistance of his mentor Esbandalon, a ne'er-do-well, larger than life itinerant musician.
This involves extracting Esbandalon from the clutches of Voiceless Rin, the most feared moneylender in the city.
Racing against the hordes of other reward seekers and avoiding Voiceless Rin's brigade of ruffians, Nisha and Tal visit threatening rift worlds and sail a boat of fire to the skies in their quest for the missing star, with Nisha's secret desire to honour her late parents driving her on.
