The Plimmers of Wellington were an influential family in the early days of the settlement - John Plimmer (of Plimmer Steps) was known as 'the father of Wellington'. From a busy store located in a ship (Plimmer's Ark) through the hard days of farming in the Depression, to today's busy world, the Plimmer family has provided several generations of influencers in the worlds of commerce, politics and farming. Illustrated with glorious photographs of New Zealand rural life by Chris Coad, the book is also filled with tales of Victorian and Edwardian family life in Wellington, moving on to a growing business and how different personalities took different paths.
