A Twentieth-Century History Of The British Open
The great links courses of the British Isles have played court to some of the most dramatic and sometimes heartbreaking moments. This book looks at the players who have dominated the scene, from the Great Triumvirate of Vardon, Taylor and Braid, the era of Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen, on to Bobby Locke and Peter Thomson. Also more recent players such as Palmer, Nicklaus, Player, Watson, Faldo and Norman.
Every memorable moment is captured. A brief history of the championship in the nineteenth century sets the scene, before each twentieth-century sporting year. The forthcoming 2000 championship is looked at, as well as the way that the championship has developed, courses have altered and equipment has improved. Records of each year's results are given in a comprehensive appendix, while specially commissioned maps illustrate in detail each of the fourteen courses. Included are 110 colour photographs.
