With archival material unpublished for half a century plus the work of some of the pioneers in fashion photography, 'The New Look - The Dior Revolution' traces fashion from the late Thirties through the War years into the advent of Dior's New Look, which was launched in Paris in the Spring of 1947. It covers the impact of the War on military-influenced style, utility clothing, 'make do and mend' and ration book clothing in Britain, continental Europe and the United States. Contrasted with this is the influence of American and Hollywod driven styles, and the peace-time reaction against austerity that was embodied in the New Look.
