When city girl Molly Bonner arrives in the small village of Lufferton Boney, she creates quite a stir. With her non-country-style boots, skirt, hair and car, she sends waves of intrigue rippling amongst the residents of the village, from antiques dealer Dryden Fellows to Montmorency the cat. Nobody knows why she has come here or what her visit will accomplish, but one thing is certain: her presence in the village will alter the past, present and future of the place and the people for good. Molly is an archaeologist who has come to discover the truth behind Lufferton Boney's greatest and most famous resident, the giant (and slightly obscene) Gnome, a fertility symbol etched into the face of Pound Hill. She is hoping to uncover the truth behind the village's past and settle her own personal demons with the Gnome, but in the process of doing this she shakes up the lives and loves of the colourful characters he looks down upon.
