The gardens at Heligan were, at their peak, one of the glories of Cornwall. The mild Cornish climate had inspired the great Victorian plant hunters to bring back wonderful plants from around the world. Reflecting the passions of successive generations of the Tremayne family, the series of gardens was unique. But the horrors of the First World War brought this era of innocence and wonder to an end, as the Tremaynes struggled - and in the end gave up the fight - to keep Heligan alive. The gardens began their slow, but inevitable journey into sleep.
Seventy years later, Tim Smit and John Nelson hacked their way through the green shroud that covered Heligan and found the key to unlock this remarkable place, embarking on a quest that was to change their lives forever.
