VIDEO Can you fall in love with someone you've never met, never even spoken to - someone who is light years away? Romy Silvers is the only surviving crew-member of a spaceship travelling to a new planet, on a mission to establish a second home for humanity. Alone in space, she is the loneliest girl in the universe until she hears about a new ship which has launched from Earth - with a single passenger on board. A boy called J. Their only communication is via email - and due to the distance between them, their messages take months to transmit. And yet Romy finds herself falling in love. But what does Romy really know about J? And what do the mysterious messages which have started arriving from Earth really mean? Sometimes, there's something worse than being alone...
Untitled Romy Silvers is special, she is the first child to be born in space. Her parents were sent on a colony ship with many others in stasis, ready to colonize a new Earth. Due to a malfunction with the "sleeping pods" all the crew died and left just Romy and her parents on the ship. After another accident, when Romy was very young she lost both her parents and is left to run the ship on her own. She has support from NASA via voice calls and most of the ship runs itself but she is lonely.
Then the news that another "Faster Than Light Ship" has been launched to support the colony attempt. Romy is overjoyed as she is no longer alone. With email transmissions between the ships she gets to know the commander on the other vessel, finding herself falling for him. When worryingly Romy loses contact with Molly at NASA, she relies on her new friend J to help her through. Yet all is not as it seems - Romy needs to dig deep and find an inner strength she didn't know she had to survive.
With a battle of wits between the two commanders who will win? A fast paced novel that explores our mind and reactions to stimuli, what would you do in a situation as perilous as this? Loved this young adult novel by Lauren James. - Kerryn (QBD) Guest , 31/01/2019
