This book is intended for people touring Western Australia, as well as for local residents. The book provides a solid introduction to the environment and natural history of Western Australia, covering the geography, climate, topography, natural scenery, vegetation, flora and fauna.
The natural environment is covered using 200 of the author's stunning photographs from the various regions of Western Australia. The State is renowned for its wildflowers, having one of the richest floras in the world. The intention is to illustrate most of the important families and genera to help people recognise the different sorts of flowers.
Information is also supplied on the numbers of species and distributions within each group. The description of vegetation provides an insight into the great diversity of habitats in Western Australia, ranging from the vine thickets (loosely a form of tropical rainforest), to arid deserts, heath, temperate forests and montane vegetation.
The fauna is, of course, even more diverse and most of the important groups are covered in the book, especially those the traveller is likely to encounter, including insects, spiders, fish, frogs, reptiles, birds and mammals.
