The Little edition of the Macquarie Dictionary may be seen as a portable version of its predecessor. Its emphasis is on recording the most common uses of the general vocabulary; accordingly, the proportion of specialised or technical terms is lower.
Similarly, the Little Macquarie has given less room to informal or colloquial items, and to words from other regional dialects of English, notably British and US.
But the Little Macquarie is based on the same research that produced the Macquarie Dictionary. It shares the same computer database and the same team of experienced editors.
