In his twentieth year, mixed-blood Aborigine Tommy Gubba is initiated in the eternal flames into an ancient clan of sorcerers - the Kadaitcha. Accompanied by lesser spirits, he is sent into the mortal world to take revenge on the fair-skinned race, the invaders of the South Land who have plundered its wealth and laid waste to the chosen people.
