Kady and Ezra thought their break up was messy until they witnessed their entire world literally falling apart. Now Kady and Ezra are piecing together what's left of their lives, and their romance, and trying to survive an intergalactic war. An innovatively designed story that's best described as Battlestar Galactica meets 10 Things I Hate About You.

The year is 2575, and two rival mega-corporations are at war over a planet that's little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, exes Kady and Ezra - who are barely even talking to each other - are forced to fight their way onto the evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But the warship is the least of their problems. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results. The fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what the hell is going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth and the courage of everyday heroes.

Illuminae – the classic tale of boy meets girl. Then girl loses boy. And parents. And planet. And ends up on a crippled spaceship in the middle of an interstellar war. With a unique format, Kaufman and Kristoff have crafted a spectacular, impossibly captivating ride of a novel that celebrates the courage of everyday heroes. Five stars. - Melanie (QBD)

With unique formatting, great characters, lots of sass, a slightly evil but brilliant AI, spaceships, and a deadly disease that basically turns people into zombies, "Illuminae" appeals to a broad audience and is definitely worth the read. Furthermore, both Amie and Jay are Australian, which is pretty awesome. - Melissa (QBD)

One of the best author combos around with an unorthodox writing style. 2001 space odyssey meets resident evil. It's surprisingly compelling in complexity with the visual presentation parts of the story. Non-legit mine station gets bombed by the competition the survivors are forced to flee on the rag tag convoy with the only military ship that answered their plea. The race of survival isnt just against the pursing ship but the damaged A.I. Adian that is trying to save them all, or is it? The book is essentially a case book, a collection of all documentation, messages, and recorded footage of the events that unfolded. Reading this will really make you sit back and wonder how this will all unfold and does it end well for Kady and Ezra? - Allison (QBD)
