The 20th century has witnessed no major Bible in which both the Old and New Testaments have been illustrated by a single artist. Barry Moser has turned his attention to rectifying this situation. Over the course of four years, he has dedicated himself to the design and illustration of his Pennyroyal Caxton Press edition of The Holy Bible. Some of the (nearly 240) images are traditionally narrative while others are symbolic, interpretive, or metaphorical. The Pennyroyal Caxton edition of The Holy Bible is first and foremost a reading Bible, a Bible to be enjoyed as a book as well as a sacred text. Its source, the King James Version, has been considered by many to be the noblest monument of English prose. The text of this particular edition follows Frederick Scrivner's 1873 edition and is presented without verse numbers. The Pennyroyal Caxton edition of The Holy Bible is for anyone who has ever wished for a version of the Bible that honours its sanctity and monumentality while also holding a candle to the devils and angels that reside therein.
