Adewale Akinnuoye-AgbajeA deeply personal memoir from the award-winning actor and director exploring childhood questions of belonging, underscored by love, loss and violence.
Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje is an award-winning actor and director. Behind blockbuster titles and iconic characters, however, lies a personal story of love, prejudice and violence that is stranger than fiction. Adopted from birth by a white working-class family in Tilbury, Essex, and one of the few Black children in the area, Adewale was forced to make his way through the fringes of a society in which violence and race hatred were the only currencies. This, then, is a story of survival, identity and the importance of looking beyond the surface to the heart beneath the skin.
