This book has been written for those who drive a long distance and like to camp along the way. Working as a cook on four wheel drive holiday safaris, remote cattle stations, a charter yacht and a Barramundi fishing retreat in the Kimberley, Arnhemland and Great Barrier Reef of Australia has made the author a disciple of improvisation and simple planning.
There are 176 recipes for four people. Measures, except for tinned food, are in table and teaspoons and coffee mug sizes.
Travel with an esky or food cooler and top up with ice, not too difficult in most places. The combination of cans and packets with fresh vegetables when available works well. A basic utensil and stores list covers most of the recipes. Most recipes work well in camp ovens as well as conventional ovens.
Most recipes can be prepared by children with a little supervision - encourage it! Stop the squabbling on "What's for dinner", just pass the book around during some of the less interesting parts of the trip and get volunteers for the evening meal.
