This story has such a rapid fire pace it is very hard to put down. At its core, it is a story about what we value in terms of privacy, our innermost secrets and how much about ourselves we are willing to share, what rules we are willing to live by and what we will ultimately give up, although not always through our own choice. Get this book, lock the door, grab the wine and polish both off. - Nathan (QBD)

Would you rent a house owned by a mysterious landlord, who sets a weird application process, and knowing the last tenant Emma was murdered ? Jane would ! But then Jane wonders if her life is going to head the same way as Emma. A great read with heaps of twists and turns. A must read for fans of Gone Girl and Fifty Shades of Grey - Peter (QBD)

Soon to be another movie adaptation, “based on the book...” JP Delaney has written another one of those 'girl' books (think Gone Girl, Girl on the Train). A psychological thriller with alternating perspectives between Emma (then) and Jane (now), with a very controlling Christian Grey type antagonist. While an easy read with short chapters, the novel is predictable and at times convulted. - Stacey (QBD)

Delaney reveals each character one twisted flaw at a time. Slyly showing each motivation but not necessarily in the order it orginally occured. I felt completely manipulated and completely enthralled. A fabulous way to pass the day and every bit as good as Gone Girl or The Couple Next Door. This one will stay with you long after you have put it down. - Gillian (QBD)

Jane soon discovers that the girl before her had died a mysterious death and she starts to untangle the truth from the lies. Fast paced and intruiging JP Delaney will keep you guessing until the very end. - Elizabeth (QBD)

The Girl Before is an amazing read. The books was really fast paced and captured my attention getting me hooked to the story so that I couldn't wait to read it through till the end to find out what happened. The plot was very creative with an ending that was a total surprise. Definately a read for those that like 'Gone Girl' and 'The One Who Got Away'. - Cassandra (QBD)

I found the whole thriller aspect long and drawn out. Some chapters "Now" and "Then" were very repetitive. However I did enjoy the way the chapters were written between Emma and Jane. Overall for me this was a poor attempt to mimic the heights set by "Gone girl" and "Girl on the train". - Gina (QBD)

"The Girl Before" grips you right from the start and doesn't let go until the very end. It follows two women, Emma -before- and Jane -after- as they move into the beautiful but sinister One Folgate Street. This dark, brooding tale was full of tension and the split timeline of the narrative added to the suspense. If you want a psychologically intriguing rollercoaster of a read, pick this one up! - Zoe (QBD)

Intriguing from the first page. Is a life of beauty and perfection worth your life? The story moves between Emma, a young woman who mysteriously dies in a ultra modern, yet slightly creepy house & Jane who has moved into the house herself. Is it the house killing these young woman or the man who designed the house after a tragedy of his own? It keeps you guessing and you won't see the twist! - Jodie (QBD)

The Girl Before is an amazing book that is similar to 'The Girl on the Train' with an unpredictable ending that made me re-read the whole thing again. Jane finds an amazing house that is not available to anyone. Rules must be followed by the handsome owner, Edward, known to be a suspect for a previous murder in the house. - Ayano (QBD)

Then and Now: Jane and Emma have alot in common very attractive young women each with a problem that seems unsolvable in the real world. One beautiful house with a low rent but the high price of living in it is lots of rules and the man that owns it. Will this combination be a salvation or the demise of them both? A great psychological thriller. - Karen (QBD)

Who was the girl before? What happened to her? Is the new girl who moves into the elusive One Folgate Street going to meet the same fate? This novel is a slightly darker take on the ever growing suspense genre and it kept me up at night, it kept me wondering what happened through the day and it's definitely one I struggled to put down. For fans of Gone Girl who want something a little more mature. - Zoe (QBD)

If Hitchcock were writing contemporary thrillers, this would be the tale... introspectively complex, riddled with psychological obsessions and creepy to the core; JP Delaney recalls the age-old adage, "if something is too good to be true, it isn't"... As good as Candice Fox, Charlea Donlea or Karin Slaughter. - Amy (QBD)

Why so many books with 'girl' in the title … particularly when around 65% of the time, the 'girl' in question is a woman? It ups the stakes through a greater sense of vulnerability … and it's a particularly interesting variety of vulnerability that Delaney explores in her 'girl' novel. It's mesmerising how the two 'girls' are interplayed with across time and through both place and events. - Jeremy (QBD)

The Girl Before has an intriguing premise, and even though the set up initially seems a little far-fetched, JP Delaney maneouvered it so that in the world of the novel, it was perfectly understandable. They did an excellent job of grabbing my attention by revealing threads of the plot strand by strand, and I'm excited to read more of the novel and figure out what exactly is going on! - Madeleine (QBD)

If you like psychological thrillers, full of intrigue and mystery, this is for you! Jane, who is looking for a fresh start, completes an intense questionnaire to rent a new house. Designed by a famous architect, it seemed too good to be true. A finely-crafted thriller, 'The Girl Before' is split between present-day Jane and the girl before, Emma, as each girl moves into the architectural masterpiece One Folgate Street. However, Emma is dead in Jane's narrative and as Jane begins to unravel the mystery, the body count seems to be rising. Twisted and complex, 'The Girl Before' kept me turning page after page. - Caitlin (QBD)

I like myself a good thriller, and at the moment, authors are releasing them left right and centre. The Girl Before is likened to Girl on the Train or Gone Girl, and so the hype for this is extraordinary. I'm not going to say I loved this title, but it was good and I was impressed with the ending. I would definitely recommend this for people who love a good thriller. - Lisa (QBD)

An obvious attempt to cash in on the bizarre success of the Fifty Shades series and clinch a movie deal, The Girl Before tells the story of two woman chosen by an obsessive architect to live in the austerely minimalist flat he has built over the dead bodies of his wife and child, who he may or may not have killed. The second woman tries to solve the apparent murder of the first. Airport novel. - Stephen (QBD)

The Girl Before is a searing debut about two women whose lives are in the balance, the house that binds them, and the man behind it all. Nothing is as perfect as it seems, so will Jane and Emma's fates be the same as the girl before? The concept for this book seemed particularly appealing: slightly creepy, dual narrative, debut author. Unfortunately, for me, it's failing. The writing is deliberately repetitive, the female characters are unbelievable and lacking in personality, there's a lot of bad sex scenes, and the end is predictable. Not my favourite read at all. - Shoshana (QBD)

Reading this was like getting into a car, being told you're going to the zoo and ending up at the dentist. I really, really wanted to like it and I did up to a certain point. The characters are interesting, the story line hooks you but then the lying and manipulating starts and almost every character has a motive. What was almost a brilliant read is lost to an 'every man for himself' mentality. - Karen (QBD)

This psychological thriller is centred around a mysterious house that is going cheap on the rental market but as per the old saying its...too good to be true.... The mysterious cover caught my eye and I knew I had to find out a little more about this house. I must admit, the storyline didn’t go down the path I'd envisioned for the book, but Id enjoyed it nevertheless. Anyone who likes a thriller that keeps you on your toes should crack this one open. Girl On The Train lovers will enjoy this one too - Belinda (QBD)
