This book details the wanderings of an unnamed slacker trying to survive New York City in the 1980s. The novel opens with the fuck-up being dumped by his girlfriend and fired from his job because he asked for a raise. He couch-surfs for a while at his mentor's place in Brooklyn. He's involved in a robbery. He meets a divorced single-mother with whom he has a relationship, while later disciplining her son. He gets a job at a gay porn theatre and has to pretend to be gay to keep the job. And this is only the beginning. It's impossible to stop reading this, if only to find out how low our book's hero can go.
